Michael Simpson is new to Sachse High School in the Fall of 2026. He is a graduate of Patricia E. Paetow High School, and Stephen F. Austin State University where he earned his Bachelor’s in Music Education.
While at SFA, Michael studied clarinet under Dr. Chris Ayer. He founded and performed with the SFA Clarinet Choir- a featured ensemble at the 2022 Texas Music Educators Association Convention. He performed in all 4 of the university’s concert bands on clarinet, trumpet, and euphonium, under the batons of Dr. Tamey Anglley, Dr. Daniel Haddad and Dr. Chris Kaatz. In addition, he was a member of the Roarin’ Buzzsaws Pep Band and the Lumberjack Marching Band, where he served as a clarinet squad leader and Undergraduate Teaching Assistant. After his Junior year at SFA, Michael marched trumpet with the Guardians Drum and Bugle Corps, advancing to the semi-finals of the World Class Championships in 2022. Prior to graduating from SFA, Michael student taught under Jeffrey Tipps and Inez McGraw at Haskett Junior High in Katy ISD, where he led several beginner classes, and was the director of the Concert Band.
Prior to being named to his position at Sachse, he was the Assistant Director of Bands at Odessa High School in Odessa, Texas. In his time there, Michael helped lead the Broncho Marching Band to 2 Bands Of America Regional Finals appearances, 2 6A UIL Area performances, and extended the longest streak of division 1 ratings in the Texas UIL Region Marching Contest, to 86 consecutive years. His concert ensemble, the Symphonic Band, earned sweepstakes in 2025 and 2026. In addition to teaching, Michael also writes competitive marching shows for a few groups around the state, and has arranged stand tunes for several ensembles. Professionally, he maintains membership with the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Bandmasters Association, and the International Clarinet Association.
Michael is originally from Katy, Texas, a suburb west of Houston, where his parents, Miranda and Michael Sr, and youngest siblings live. He has 3 younger brothers, 1 of which is in the Navy, and the others still in school. His father and mother are both retired from the Army. In his free time, Michael enjoys time in nature, traveling, hiking, listening to music, trying new foods, and spending time with friends and family.
Mr. Simpson is excited to work with all the wonderful staff, students and parents of Sachse High School, and contribute to pushing the Mustang Band to new heights!
